The problem with guys like Ben Bishop (and Ryan Miller fell victim to this in 2006) is that while some younger goaltenders are having good years, they have yet to show they can maintain that level of play when the stakes are really high. That fear of the unknown really hurts young players.

I think that's a fair point if we're talking about the starter or backup role, but the chances of the third guy playing are so slim. If I'm looking to bring a third guy along, I want the guy who's playing the best hockey.

I guess the stakes aren't high enough and there's not enough pressure on a guy who loses Steven stamkos and key defensive players such as gudas and Hedman all at once and still keeps his team atop the Atlantic division

Ben bishop was missing 2 out of 4 top 4 defense man , not to mention playing with defense man that are rookies and some fresh out of college . This is bullpoop and he got robbed from that position jimmy Howard sucks

I figured that Howard would be the last option out of the three (Howard, Schneider, Bishop). While I personally think that Bishop deserved the spot more than Schneider, I could have understood the rationale behind taking CS. Taking Howard over either of them just seems ridiculous to me.

Injuries or no injuries, the "stakes" are only high enough in the playoffs and championships. How does a goaltender play when there's no tomorrow? Bishop hasn't been in that situation yet. They're going with the safe bet.

Bishop's having a great season, but I doubt you'll find many who think he's better than Schneider.
